How to print ID front and back on one page
Open the ID card printing tool, choose ID card, then take or choose a photo of the front and of the back. Check the four corners are lined up; both sides are then placed at their real size of 85.6×54 mm, one above the other, on a single Letter page. Click Export and print. The result looks like a photocopy, with no measuring or resizing on your part.
Why it’s hard to do by hand
In Word or an image editor, the hard part is the size. A photo’s pixel count has nothing to do with how big the card really is, so once inserted it comes out too large or too small. You’d also have to trim away the table behind the card and straighten a photo taken at an angle. The tool does all of that for you.
Step by step
- Choose the type. ID cards and bank cards are both 85.6×54 mm (about 3.37×2.13 inches). A passport photo page is 125×88 mm.
- Front. Click Choose photo to use an existing picture, or on a phone tap Take photo.
- Line up the corners. The tool detects the card’s edges automatically. If it misses, drag the four handles onto the card’s corners. A photo taken at an angle is straightened into a proper rectangle.
- Back. Do the same again, or click Skip the back if you only need one side.
- Export. Both sides sit on the same page, one above the other. Print directly, or download a PDF to send to someone.
The first time you use the camera or ID mode, the browser downloads a scanner component of about 10 MB. After that it’s quick.
Photo tips
- Lay the card on a dark, plain surface so its edges stand out.
- Turn the flash off to avoid glare over the text.
- Let the card fill most of the frame. A slight angle is fine; the tool will correct it.
Printed at the wrong size?
Choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog, not “Fit to page”. If the card still comes out too big or too small, print the printer calibration page to see whether your printer is scaling, and read why prints come out the wrong size.
Privacy and acceptance
Your photos are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded. When you’re finished, click Clear to delete everything saved in this browser too. Whether a printed copy of your ID is acceptable, and whether both sides are needed, is up to whoever is asking for it, so check their requirements first.
